Our Inspiron 14 has all-day battery life and the power to handle schoolwork or office tasks. It comes with a great keyboard & trackpad, and an excellent screen in spite of its low brightness. You can even add features like a webcam cover or useable USB-C port (though not surprisingly, they come at an extra cost). The Inspiron 14 is a well-rounded machine, but not one of the best. It’s not as light or thin as the Dell XPS 13 or HP Spectre x360, it has less RAM than the Lenovo Legion Y530 and last-generation Acer Swift 5, and its performance fell short compared to those machines.

Acer Aspire 5 (A514-54-501Z)

The Aspire 5 has a better and faster processor than the Dell with more ports, but it’s also heavier and bulkier. It also doesn’t have USB-C charging or USB-C video output. However, the screen is brighter and the keyboard feels nicer to type on.

Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5i (13-Inch)

The Flex 5i has a Core i3 processor and 8GBs of RAM, which is what you want if you’re doing more intensive work on the go. Since the Dell Inspiron 14 has a long battery life (8 hours) it is the perfect choice for people on a budget. It is also powerful and can withstand 2 years of normal use before needing to be replaced. The keyboard and trackpad are excellent but there have been some complaints about the screen quality of this laptop.

The laptop looks great and it’s extremely light. It even has a sliding webcam and fingerprint reader. The only issue is that the screen flexes slightly and the speakers could do with an upgrade, but we’ve seen worse in laptops of this price range.

The Dell Inspiron 14 is one of the best laptops for under $500 and has a powerful processor, an excellent keyboard and enough battery life to last you through the workday. The only major flaw is that there is not much storage (the other features are great, though!).

It has a lot of great features, like a fingerprint reader and sliding webcam cover, USB-C port. . The laptop is on the low end of the price spectrum, but it’s got some nice things going for it. The display’s a bit dim, and the chassis may flex a tiny bit, but none of these impacts our overall opinion at all.
